313 ART PROJECT is a contemporary art gallery located in Seoul, South Korea that promotes meaningful exchange between international and Korean art scenes. Since the opening of its first space at Dosan Park in Cheongdam-dong, the cultural hub of Gangnam, 313 has focused on introducing the international art scene to the Korean public and directing an international spotlight on emerging Korean artists.
313 established its footing by introducing various artists such as Daniel Buren, Sophie Calle, Tony Oursler, and Xavier Veilhan who had risen to international acclaim but were still relatively unknown within Korea. Moreover, the gallery has garnered recognition in the global art scene by showcasing artists such as Kiwon Park, Lee Wan, Je Yeoran through international art fairs and group exhibitions. These artists, who translate personal philosophies rooted in Korean values into their unique artistic visions, have captured international attention on these platforms. As a result, in 2017, Lee Wan and Xavier Veilhan represented the Korean and French Pavilion respectively in the 57th Venice Biennale. 313 has also been a leading supporter of public art, installing Xavier Veilhan’s Great Mobiles in early 2018 at the Incheon International Airport Terminal 2.

The gallery has recently brought about sensation in the Korean art community through introducing (2017-18), which broke away from the conventional commercial mindset of galleries and instead offered a new paradigm of artistic curation. While engaging in global conversations on art, 313 has long felt limitations of the Korean art market which leans heavily on already established artists. Thus, to discover and support young, hidden artists, 313 ART PROJECT selected five promising artists in their thirties and forties and held their solo exhibitions at the gallery’s new space in the Seongbuk district, where the traditional Korean ways of life and values are preserved.

Innovative endeavors of the gallery continued through < 313 Seongbuk-dong – Alternative Space Project > in 2018. The new project aims to provide not only on-site experiences but also the chance to meet a broad range of audiences to young artists and curators who will lead the future of Korean contemporary art. By offering exhibition spaces and opportunities to fine arts undergraduate and graduate students as well as young independent artists and curators, 313 aspires to foster the growth of domestic arts.

313 ART PROJECT opened a new exhibition space in Paris in 2019 to present multifaceted dimensions of the Korean art scene to the rest of the world.
