On May 5th, IU, a popular South Korean singer and actress, donated 100 million won (approximately $85,000 USD) to the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation, a charity organization dedicated to supporting children in need. The donation was made under the name 'IUAENA', a combination of IU's stage name and her fan club name 'UAENA', and was confirmed by the foundation in an official sponsorship letter.
IU's agency, EDAM Entertainment, posted a picture of the sponsorship confirmation on her official Instagram account, along with a message expressing their admiration for the artist's generosity. "On a rainy day like today, I want to be a strong umbrella for my tender heart," the statement read. "I feel warm spring days even on rainy days because I'm with UAENA, who is like the sunshine in May."
This is not the first time IU has made a donation on Children's Day. In fact, she has been doing so every year since 2015, and her charitable efforts have earned her a reputation as one of the most philanthropic celebrities in South Korea. Last year alone, she donated a total of 920 million won (approximately $780,000 USD) to various causes.
In addition to her donations, IU is also known for her consistent practice of good deeds and her commitment to spreading a positive message. She recently gave pizza, drinks, and rice cakes to students at the Milal School, a special education institution for children with disabilities, touching the hearts of many.
IU's generosity has not gone unnoticed by the public, and many have expressed their admiration and support for her charitable efforts. Her recent donation comes shortly after actor Lee Jong-suk, who confirmed his relationship with IU in December 2022, donated 100 million won to Asan Medical Center Children's Hospital in Seoul.
As South Korea's entertainment industry continues to grapple with issues of social responsibility and accountability, IU's example of giving back to the community serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that celebrities can have on society.
