The hit medical series "Dr. Romantic" is set to premiere its highly anticipated third season on Friday, following a three-year hiatus. The show, which first aired in 2016, revolves around the lives of doctors working at Dol Dam Hospital, a small hospital in a remote countryside area led by the genius doctor, Kim Sa-bu, played by Han Suk-kyu.
During the press conference held at the broadcaster in Yangcheon District, Seoul on Wednesday, the lead actors expressed their excitement for the return of the series. "I'm overwhelmed with joy that we could return with the third season. We hope the viewers would fully enjoy the series," said Lee Sung-kyung, who plays Cha Eun-jae.
Director Yoo In-shik, who previously led the smash-hit series "Extraordinary Attorney Woo," has returned as director and promised a more intricate storyline and character development in the new season. "Season 3 will have a bigger scale, compared to Seasons 1 and 2, and will have colorful stories. It will be a series with a very dense plot. Along with the scale, it will also incorporate humanity, heartwarming story, and dilemmas in life from the previous seasons," he said.
The new season will pick up three years after the previous season, with the Dol Dam staff establishing their own medical foundation. The director also hinted at deeper romance between Seo Woo-jin, played by Ahn Hyo-seop, and Cha Eun-jae. "Their relationship and feelings (toward each other) have deepened than in Season 2 … and there also will be a huge obstacle between them. It would be interesting to see how they get over that," he said.
The actors also noted that their close relationship in real life has helped them portray their characters. "Playing our characters after three years (in the story) made it easier for us," said Ahn.
"Dr. Romantic 3" will air Fridays and Saturdays at 10 p.m. and is expected to draw in fans of the previous seasons with its promise of a more complex plot and character development.
