The highest price in Korean auction in the first half of 2022 is Kusama's

Yayoi Kusama’s ‘Status of Venus Obliterated by Infinity Net’ recorded the most expensive art work at Korea auction market during the first half of 2022.
According to the Korea Art Managemet Service’s report, ‘Status of Venus Obliterated by Infinity Net’ sold for 4.4 billion won(3.33 million dollars) at the 165th Seoul Action, the biggest auction house in Korea.
This Kusama’s work is the 4th art work of Status of Venus Obliterated by Infinity Net series that exhibited at New York Robert Miller gallery in 1998. That series is consisted of a sculpture of Venus and a painting filled with nets. The net that started on the canvas linked with the sculpture of venus.
Yayoi Kusama, Japaness artist, is the one of the most famous contemporary artists all over the world. She went to New York in 1958 and began various art work and activity. She was known for provocative performance related to social issues such as an anti-war, homosexuality and human rights and so on.
Among the Korean works, Ufan Lee’s ‘From Point’, created in 1982, and Whanki Kim’s ‘Aterlier’, created in 1957 recorded the top on the list that the most expensive art work. Their works sold for 1.7 billion won (about 1.2 million dollars) respectively.
In terms of total sales, Ufan Lee surpassed Kusama, who recorded the highest single auction price in the first half of 2022.
