The production teams responsible for the acclaimed drama series "Castaway Diva" and the third season of the reality show "Unexpected Business" issued formal apologies recently, addressing concerns related to their respective shoots.
On Monday, a Jeju Island resident raised issues about the "Castaway Diva" production team leaving a pile of stones near Hwanguji Coast in Seogwipo during the filming of a scene featuring an SOS emergency sign made with stones by the female lead. The team acknowledged its lack of caution and disregard for Jeju Island's natural surroundings, expressing regret for any inconvenience caused. In an official statement, the production team pledged to promptly restore the site to its original state.
"Unexpected Business," starring popular Korean actors Cha Tae-hyun and Zo In-sung, faced hygiene-related criticism as viewers observed the cast not adhering to safety measures such as wearing masks, hairnets, or disposable gloves while running an Asian supermarket in Monterey, California. The show's producer acknowledged the oversight, apologizing for causing concern and emphasizing the team's responsibility. Despite the completion of filming, the production team committed to portraying the cast's commitment to hygiene and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Similar issues have been reported in other Korean productions, including Netflix's "Mr. Plankton," whose staff sought forgiveness for illegal trash dumping on Jeju Island, and SBS crime thriller "The Escape of the Seven," criticized for illegal sidewalk parking during scenes shot in Seoul in December 2022.
