A retrospective honoring the illustrious career of actor Song Kang-ho will take place at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles from December 7 to January 13, 2024. The event, curated by the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures' programming team in collaboration with the Korea Foundation, will feature 14 films spanning Song's remarkable three-decade-long career.
Song Kang-ho, renowned for his versatility and contributions to both critically acclaimed and commercially successful films, will be present at the retrospective from December 7 to 10. During these days, he will introduce selected works, including the Oscar-winning "Parasite" (2019), "Memories of Murder" (2003), and "Secret Sunshine" (2007). Additionally, Song will engage in discussions with museum visitors, providing insights into his craft and cinematic experiences.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the largest film museum in the United States, opened its doors in September 2021 in Los Angeles, the heart of the American film industry. The museum serves as a tribute to the profound impact of film on culture, science, and history while fostering understanding and preservation of the cinematic art form.
Song Kang-ho, who made his acting debut in 1996, rose to prominence with roles in critically acclaimed films such as "Joint Security Area" (2000), "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" (2002), and "The Host" (2006). His international breakthrough came with his role in "Parasite," which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 2019. Song was recently honored with the Best Actor award at the 75th Cannes International Film Festival for his performance in "Broker" (2022).
Acknowledged as a veteran actor and one of Korea's most prolific cinematic talents, Song Kang-ho's retrospective at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures provides an opportunity to appreciate the depth and diversity of his contributions to the world of cinema.
