Jason Blum, Renowned Horror Producer, Excites Fans with Upcoming Adaptation of Popular Game

Jason Blum, the prolific American producer behind successful horror franchises such as "Paranormal Activity," "Insidious," and "The Purge," is gearing up for the release of his latest venture, "Five Nights at Freddy's," with Blumhouse Productions. The film, directed by Emma Tammi, is an adaptation of the popular game of the same name and revolves around a security guard working at a haunted pizzeria with animatronic robots that come to life at night. Set to premiere in Korea on Wednesday, the film has already topped box offices in over 60 countries.

During an online interview with Korean reporters, Blum highlighted the unique approach taken in adapting "Five Nights at Freddy's." Rather than aiming to broaden the fan base, Blumhouse Productions decided to cater exclusively to existing fans, avoiding dilution of the source material.

Adapting a popular game into a film comes with both advantages and challenges, according to Blum. The emotional connection existing fans have with the game is an advantage, but the challenge lies in meeting specific and high expectations. Blum emphasized the dedication to spend eight months perfecting the animatronics for the film to satisfy fan expectations.

Discussing his perspective on horror, Blum clarified that horror films should be emotionally disturbing rather than merely gross. He expressed a love for horror as a genre that allows the exploration of unusual and subversive stories, providing a platform to reach a wider audience. Blumhouse Productions encourages artists to experiment with new tools and ideas, striking a balance between knowing what to include and what to cut in the filmmaking process.

Blum teased the upcoming releases from Blumhouse Productions, with five films scheduled for 2024. Titles include "Night Swim," expected to release in the first quarter in Korea, and "Imaginary" and "Speak No Evil," featuring James McAvoy. Additionally, two untitled films are slated for release at the end of next year.
