"Persona: Sulli" is a 129-minute documentary directed by Hwang Soo-ah, Kim Ji-hye, and Jung Yoon-suk. The film delves into Sulli's early life and entertainment career, featuring a 29-minute short film titled "4: Clean Island" and a 100-minute documentary segment called "Dear Jinri." The latter includes clips from Sulli's final interview before her untimely death.
Premiering at the Busan International Film Festival in October, the documentary explores the challenges faced by the late K-pop star, born Choi Jin-ri, during her time in the entertainment industry. The film, released on Netflix earlier this week, has received positive reviews from both fans and general viewers.
International media outlets, including UPI and AFP, have praised "Persona: Sulli" since its debut, acknowledging its poignant portrayal of Sulli's struggles as a K-pop artist. Sulli, who debuted as a child actor in 2005 and later joined the girl group f(x) in 2009 under SM Entertainment, continued her career in acting after departing from the group in 2015. She tragically passed away at the age of 25 by suicide on October 14, 2019.
