Kakao Entertainment has revealed that SBS's drama "A Business Proposal" (2022) will be remade into a Hong Kong drama, scheduled to air on Nov. 27 on ViuTV, a television channel operated by PCCW, a Hong Kong telecommunications company. Popular members of Hong Kong's boy band Mirror—Anson Lo and Eden Lui—have been cast in key roles, along with model and actor Hanna Chan.
The romantic comedy, originally starring Ahn Hyo-seop, Kim Min-kyu, and Kim Se-jeong, revolves around the relationship between a food conglomerate CEO, Kang Tae-moo, and an employee at his company, Shin Ha-ri. The narrative unfolds from their meeting through a blind date to a fairy tale ending with wedding bells.
While maintaining the overall plot of the original drama, some details in the Hong Kong remake have been adjusted. For instance, Shin Ha-ri's parents will run a Hong Kong-style restaurant, a departure from the original fried chicken restaurant setting.
"A Business Proposal" is an adaptation of the web novel "The Office Blind Date" (2017-18) by Haehwa, hosted on Kakao Page. Kakao Entertainment expanded its intellectual property (IP) by adapting the novel into a Novel Comics' webtoon and later into an SBS drama.
In addition to the Hong Kong remake, Kakao Entertainment has recently entered into an agreement with Japanese Broadcaster Fuji TV for the release of a Japanese adaptation of its webtoon "Aquaman" (2016-19), marking the company's efforts to expand its IP into the global market.
