The World Association for Hallyu Studies (WAHS), led by President Si Yeun Moon, who is a Professor at Sookmyung Women's University, is all set to host the 10th World Hallyu Academic Forum in Paris, France on October 26th and 27th. The Forum will encompass 12 sessions focused on the main theme of 'Hallyu, Made for and in the world' And will facilitate a wide range of discussions. The Forum will hold great significance as it brings together Hallyu researchers, cultural artists, industry professionals, journalists, and cultural policymakers from 22 countries around the world to engage in discussions on related topics.
Fleur Pellerin, the former French Minister of Culture, is set to be a featured presenter at the Forum. Additionally, Professor Vincenzo Cicchelli, a renowned Hallyu scholar who argues that "Hallyu is a form of 'sweet power,' not soft power," and Sylvie Octobre, a researcher at the French Ministry of Culture, will also take the stage to discuss the trends within the Korean Wave. These two individuals, who recently co-authored a book about Hallyu, are noteworthy figures who have had a significant impact on French culture and the publishing industry.
Moon expressed, "Over the past decade, Hallyu has made remarkable strides, capturing the hearts of fans worldwide. It has faced skepticism regarding its sustainability and impact. However, Hallyu has exceeded expectations, becoming a global cultural phenomenon. This academic conference is poised to be a significant platform, not only celebrating Hallyu's past achievements but also deepening the understanding and awareness of researchers in the field."
The Forum is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and is Co-hosted by KOFICE.
