An exhibition titled "2023 Box Gallery Exhibition: A Resounding Success in Art and Social Impact" recently graced the Gangnam Foundation for Arts & Culture Exhibition Hall in Yeoksam-dong, southern Seoul. The event, which took place from July 27 to August 10, provided a platform for 13 young artists to showcase their art pieces crafted from waste paper.
The exhibition was organized by Youth Impact, a Seoul-based education technology startup, and drew inspiration from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, also known as Global Goals.
As part of the project, these young artists collaborated to collect cardboard boxes from elderly individuals experiencing financial hardship. They purchased these boxes at three times the selling price, thereby extending a helping hand. The cardboard boxes were ingeniously transformed into canvases, providing a blank canvas for these emerging artists to express their creativity.
Youth Impact, established in 2020, is dedicated to offering affordable project-based extracurricular activities to youths globally. Their mission is to provide practical, hands-on experiences and opportunities for creative exploration outside the traditional classroom setting.
Within the exhibition, there was a dedicated section that offered insights into the process of upcycling abandoned cardboard boxes into canvases. The meticulous process included the gluing together of three sheets of cardboard paper. At the center of the exhibition hall, a handcart laden with cardboard exemplified the common sight of discarded cardboard boxes often found in neighborhoods.
