Seoul Auction, in collaboration with the Korea Ceramic Foundation, will present an online auction spotlighting the creative breadth of contemporary Korean ceramics — a medium often overlooked in the domestic art market.

Titled The Ceramic, the sale runs Aug. 14–20 and marks the first partnership between the auction house and the public foundation.

The weeklong event features 35 works by seven emerging artists pushing the boundaries of the form: Kwon Hye-in, Shin Won-dong, Yang Ji-woon, Lee Song-am, Lim Jae-hyeon and Jeong Young-yu.

Highlights range from modern interpretations of traditional forms — including buncheong stoneware, luminous moon jars and black porcelain — to experimental sculptures crafted through 3D modeling. Each work shares a common goal: to reframe ceramics as a bold, contemporary art form rather than a relic of the past.

Among standout pieces are Kwon’s jars inspired by classical ceremonial vessels and Shin’s organically pleated vases.

A free preview exhibition will be held Aug. 15–20 at Seoul Auction’s Gangnam Center in southern Seoul. On opening day, an artist talk will give visitors the chance to engage directly with the creators. Attendance is limited and will be available by advance registration via a link on Seoul Auction’s social media channels, going live this Friday.

“This collaboration is about widening the role of a public art institution beyond white-cube exhibitions by creating new points of connection between the artists’ work and the public,” said Choi Moon-hwan, CEO of the Korea Ceramic Foundation.
