Coach Successfully Guides Team Amidst Transition Period

Hwang Sun-hong, head coach of the South Korean under-23 men's team, temporarily assumed the role of caretaker manager for the senior squad's World Cup qualifying matches in March.

Under his guidance, South Korea secured a 3-0 victory over Thailand and a 1-1 draw in their Asian World Cup qualifying matches.

Hwang emphasized his commitment to his primary role with the under-23 team and expressed his focus on the upcoming AFC U-23 Championship in Qatar, which serves as the Olympic qualifying tournament.

Hwang faced off-pitch challenges, including controversy surrounding midfielder Lee Kang-in's selection for the national team following off-field incidents.

South Korea currently leads Group C in the World Cup qualifiers with 10 points, positioning them well for advancement to the next round.

Hwang, who led the under-23 team to victory at the West Asian Football Federation U-23 Championship, acknowledges the challenges ahead and the need for continued preparation, potentially without some Europe-based players.
