'Waking Up the Pictures', a large-scale solo exhibition by German artist Christoph Ruckhäberle, who is drawing attention in the contemporary art world, is held in South Korea.
Christoph is a German contemporary artist who is considered the leader of the 'New Leipzig School'. 'New Leipzig School' refers to the realist style of painting born in the German city of Leipzig after World War II, and focuses on the essence of painting at a distance from various overseas trends. After German reunification, the 'New Leipzig School' inherited and developed this tradition, and since the 1990s, it has attracted attention in the global art world.
The artist tactfully unravels heavy themes such as the lonely self and the meaning of human existence remaining after German reunification with his bold style. The artist, who has a fierce spirit of inquiry, accepts and rearranges the characteristics of various painting styles and art trends, and shows the world of work that crosses dimensions and boundaries.
The artist unfolds his art world with creative activities in various genres such as silk screens, woodblocks, printing, and sculptures, as well as paintings. Beyond the constraints of the canvas, he tries not to confine all the elements that make up the picture to the framework of stereotypes.
The exhibition consists of a total of six sections. The beginning is about 160 pieces made of various materials such as paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures, of which 20 are new works. In section 2, there is a large sculpture that will unveiled for the first time in Asia.
The exhibition is divided into one and two parts, and accordingly, the viewing date and admission fee are different. The exhibition will be held until March 3 next year at the Seouliteum, Galleria Foret located in Sungsu-dong, Seoul.
