In a momentous occasion, the largest domestic amusement park in South Korea, Everland, located in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do Province, proudly welcomes the country's first-ever birth of twin giant panda cubs.
Samsung C&T Resort Group, the operator of Everland, announced on July 11th that the park's giant panda parents, Le Bao (age 10) and Ai Bao (age 9), gave birth to the adorable twins on July 7th.
These newborns are the younger siblings of Fu Bao, a female panda who captured hearts when she was born at Everland in July 2020.
The first twin made its entrance at 4:52 a.m., weighing 180 grams after an hour of labor, while the second cub followed at 6:39 a.m., weighing 140 grams.
"The mother and her cubs are all in good health," confirmed a source from Everland. "Ai Bao is skillfully caring for her newborns, drawing from her experience raising Fu Bao."
The reproductive cycle of giant pandas is exceptionally short, as their annual period for potential conception lasts only one to three days during the spring season.
Through rigorous scientific analysis involving hormone changes observed through blood and urine tests, Everland Zoo was able to identify the optimal period for mating success. This meticulous approach resulted in successful natural fertilization taking place in mid-February.
Zookeeper Kang Cherwon, affectionately known as Fu Bao's grandpa, expressed his delight regarding the birth of the twin giant panda cubs, following the joy brought by Fu Bao. Kang stated, "I will provide them with excellent care, aiming for them to become a panda family that brings hope and happiness to many people."
At present, Everland will not allow public viewing of the twin cubs in person. However, the park has planned to share videos documenting their growth and daily life through various social media platforms, including their YouTube channels, Everland and Talking Zoo PPUPPA TV, as well as the Naver page Zootopia.
This extraordinary event at Everland Amusement Park fills the hearts of South Koreans with joy, as the birth of the twin giant panda cubs promises to captivate and inspire people across the country.
