BTS member Jungkook has etched his name in music history as he claims the coveted No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with his debut solo single, "Seven." Released on July 14, the summery pop anthem, featuring American rapper Latto, made an impressive impact, selling a remarkable 153,000 song downloads and CD singles combined, along with garnering 21.9 million streams and 6.4 million radio airplay audience impressions. This momentous achievement marks the second time a South Korean solo artist has led the chart, following BTS's Jimin who accomplished this feat earlier with his hit single, "Like Crazy," in April.
As the sixth member of BTS to venture into solo territory, Jungkook's foray into the spotlight solidifies the septet's position as a global powerhouse. The K-pop juggernaut now shares an esteemed status with select legendary groups, including The Beatles, The Black Eyed Peas, Destiny's Child, and Genesis, boasting multiple members who have achieved No. 1s on the Hot 100 chart.
Previously, BTS already tasted considerable success on the Hot 100, with six of their hit tracks, including "Dynamite," "Savage Love" (Remix), "Life Goes On," "Butter," "Permission to Dance," and "My Universe," soaring to the summit.
The triumph of "Seven" extends beyond American borders, as it also seized the top position on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts. These international charts, compiled by music data tracker Luminate, encompass streaming and sales data collected from over 200 territories around the world. Notably, "Seven" had already debuted at an impressive No. 3 on the British Official Singles Chart, showcasing Jungkook's global appeal.
The overwhelming popularity of "Seven" transcends traditional charts, as it dominated iTunes charts in an astounding 106 countries, in addition to topping Spotify's daily top song global chart.
With his extraordinary solo success, Jungkook continues to assert BTS's unparalleled influence in the music industry, captivating fans and audiences worldwide. As the septet's legacy thrives, the world eagerly awaits their next triumphs on both individual and collective levels, as BTS's meteoric journey shows no signs of slowing down.
