Yoshida Yuni(吉田ユニ) holds her solo exhibition, 'Alchemy+' in South Korea.
Yuni is a Japanese graphic designer and also an art director who is well-known her visual arts via various genres. This is a follow-up exhibition following the support of her solo exhibition 'Alchemy', which was held in South Korea back in 2023.
The exhibition covered her entire work including nine new works and '2023' which is the world's first unveiled series, a new film directed by Shunji Iwai, and a poster of 'A Song of Kyrie(キリエのうた)'.
Her work drew much attention, especially on social media. The print commercial of the Japanese drama 'Elpis' expresses a rough feeling of glitch noise like a TV screen adjustment image, but if you look closely, it is a pile of stacked documents, not computer graphics.
Other works that received attention on social media include Layered and Peel, which created a new image close to an optical illusion in the process of dismantling and newly constructing certain parts of the fruit.
The artist creates images of original compositions and ideas that may seem like digital art at first glance. However, she creates her work only by hand without using computer graphics.
In an interview, she said, "There is no compulsion to never use computer graphics, but I try to focus on manual work as much as possible".
The objects in her work are composed of objects that we can see in everyday life. She creates an image that is not easily forgotten in her mind by using shapes that vary according to the movement and structure of the body or object, relationships and distances that everyday objects create with each other, and harmony and contrast of colors.
The exhibition will be held at the Seoul Museum in Jongno-gu, Seoul until Feb. 25.
