K-pop Phenomenon BTS Commits to Collective Music-Making beyond Military Duties with Renewed Agency Agreement

In a significant announcement, all members of the global K-pop sensation BTS have chosen to renew their exclusive contract with Big Hit Music, according to a press release on Wednesday. This strategic move ensures the continuation of their collaborative musical endeavors as a full unit, even after each member fulfills their mandatory military duties.

The decision was confirmed by Hybe, the parent company overseeing Big Hit Music, stating, "Our board of directors reached a conclusion over the renewal of the exclusive contract with the seven members of BTS." This marks BTS's second contract renewal with the agency, the first taking place in October 2018.

BTS made their impactful debut under Big Hit Music, an affiliate of the K-pop powerhouse Hybe, back in 2013. Since then, they have risen to global prominence, captivating audiences worldwide with their music, performances, and message.

Currently on an official group hiatus since their ninth anniversary last June due to South Korea's mandatory military service, members of BTS have been actively pursuing individual ventures and solo careers. Jin and J-Hope are presently fulfilling their military obligations.

With the extension of their exclusive contract, BTS is slated to reunite as a complete unit in 2025, once all members have completed their military service. Hybe emphasized their commitment to supporting BTS in their group activities and expressed gratitude towards the group and their fandom, Army, by pledging a generous donation of 1 billion won ($746,658) to the Korean Committee for UNICEF.
