"Iron Mask," a sports film directed by Kim Sung-hwan, secured the prestigious Best Film Award at the London East Asia Film Festival 2023, as announced by the film's distributor on Monday.
Marking the director's feature debut, "Iron Mask" emerged victorious in a competitive field that included films like "Hopeless" by Kim Chang-hoon and "Day Off" by Fu Tien-yu, among others, during the annual film festival.
The film's storyline revolves around the character Jae-woo, portrayed by Joo Jong-hyuk, a kendo player, as he prepares to confront Tae-su, played by Moon Jin-seung, the individual responsible for his brother's demise, in a final showdown for a coveted spot on the national kendo team.
Prior to this recognition, "Iron Mask" had already garnered two awards at the 27th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in July. It clinched the Best Korean Fantastic Film award and the Watcha's Pick for Korean Fantastic award.
Audiences in the local theaters can anticipate the release of "Iron Mask" on November 15.
