Incheon International Airport Corporation hosted a special media and digital art exhibition ‘Port to the New Era’, alongside Korea Arts Management Service, at Terminals 1 and 2 and the Concourse of Incheon International Airport until October 30.
‘Port to the New Era’ is the first edition of a media and digital art exhibition designed to share an experience with culture and art to travelers passing through the airport.
The word “port” in the title Port to the New Era is a reference to the airport, but it also carried the meaning of “transporting.” It has associations with the “port” on a computer, where inside and outside connect, and it connotes the idea of connecting with and proceeding into a new era where different worlds come together. As in the word “teleport,” it signifies not gradual movement, but radical change and progression from one place to another.
Incheon International Airport is an airport of the future incorporating smart technology, as well as a cultural space blending technology and art. Through a total of 14 large media screens positioned in Terminals 1 and 2 and the Concourse of Incheon International Airport. It includes works of digital video art by 11 eminent contemporary Korean artists and designers (including one artist team).
"We are happy to introduce excellent Korean media artists and works at Incheon Airport, the gateway to the world. We hope this collaboration will further expand the opportunities for people to enjoy art, and Korea Arts Management Service will actively support Korea's promising media artists." said MOON Young-ho, President of the Korea Arts Management Service.
"It is meaningful to introduce a new type of exhibition at Incheon International Airport amid keen interest in the art market, and media art. Incheon Airport will continue to establish itself as a global culture and arts airport through new and various attempts." said Kyung Wook Kim, president of Incheon International Airport.
Meanwhile, Incheon International Airport Corporation plans to provide new experiences to passengers visiting the airport by promoting K-Art, which is attracting attention as new Hallyu contents in line with the recovery of aviation demand after COVID-19, as well as supporting the globalization of the art Hallyu.
