Art Busan 2023, the largest art fair in Korea, will be held at BEXCO in Busan from May 4th to May 7th. It is 26,446.㎡, which is 4 times the size of the official FIFA soccer field, and is overwhelming compared to 16,529㎡ of other art fairs such as Kiaf and Frieze Seoul. Celebrating its 12th anniversary this year, 145 galleries from 22 countries, including 111 domestic galleries and 34 overseas galleries, will participate in the exhibition. ART BUSAN 2023 announced that it will be an art festival that communicates with the world through special exhibitions such as chatting docent service using AI technology and Busan Art Week.
Famous galleries such as Kukje Gallery, Gallery Hyundai, PKM, Thaddeus Lopac, Hakgojae, Lian Gallery, One and J Gallery, and Tang Contemporary Art will participate. Also, recently, Korea's Perez Project, Duart Squeira, Epremidis, Leo Gallery (Shanghai, China, Hong Kong), Bajau (Paris, France), La Causa Gallery (Madrid, Spain), Lazy Mike (Riga, Latvia), FWR Gallery (mainly Eastern Europe), Berlin, Germany), Barthes (Amsterdam, Netherlands), and YOD Gallery (Osaka, Tokyo), Japan) have participated in Art Busan for the first time this year, attracting the attention of young collectors.
'CONNECT', Art Busan's representative exhibition program, consists of a total of 12 exhibitions, including Robert Terrien, Daniel Buren, Younha Project, and Philip Colbert. Directors of the Robert Therian Foundation, Paul Cherwick and Dean Anz, will provide insight into the artist's worldview and life through dialogue in this exhibition. Also, a giant lobster balloon installation by Philip Colbert, known as the second Andy Warhol, will be installed in the gardens of the Paradise Hotel.
All VIP programs, including artist studio visits, closed 10 days prior to the event. Early bird tickets through 29cm and Naver were sold in advance by more than three times compared to the same period last year, creating excitement among art lovers. To meet expectations, Art Busan has expanded beyond BEXCO to 37 exhibition institutions, Busan Art Week with local brands, and the Soundport program to enjoy local nightlife.
Art Busan Chairman Son Young-hee said, “Art Busan has established itself as Korea’s representative cultural event where you can enjoy art, luxury goods, and recreation together.”
Tickets can be purchased on-site during the festival, but may sell out early due to limited quantities. More information about the festival can be found on the Art Busan website.
