Today I meet GumSahong who gets spotlight in the US recently.

R:Hello Mr. Gum.
G:Hello.

R:I heard a good news from the US.
G:I know it just begin, but I appreciate for it.

R:You’ve been described as ‘a second Jeong Seon’.
G:Jeong Seon is my one of favorite artist. I want carry on Korean’s perspective of art which is from past.

R:Do you mind explain the meaning of ‘Holistic Express Landscape’?
G:Holistic means the ‘whole’ is in the inside of ‘part’ and the ‘part’ is in the inside of ‘whole’. In dictionary ‘the complete one’ is called holistic.
This concept is depicted in Korean landscape paintings and folk paintings.

R:Your paintings of nature are quite unique.
G:I draw paintings on my iPad. It is to reverse my paintings with Photoshop.

R:Do you choose the front and the rear of artwork after drawing?
G:My drawing style is similar to ‘Baechae-bup’ which is #Korean #tradition #drawing style.
‘Baechae-bup’ is the way that drawing both front and rear side of silk to make more cubic effect.
So, I don’t choose the front and the rear from the beginning of drawing. It depends on my mind.

R:Is there any special meaning of gold and silver circles in your artworks?
G:I think the most formulaic thing in nature is moon and sun. And the most formulaic conception of human is inspiration and expiration. So, that circles are both moon&sun and inspiration&expiration.

R:Each work has a different position of the circle. Do you hide it?
G:Yes, the position of sun and moon is always change.

R:Will the series of blue continues?
G:Yes, it will continue for a while.

R:I will reveal the Gum’s unrelased new artwork for only 2 seconds for you guys.

R:What kind of artist do you want to be remembered?
G:I want be an artist who makes the artwork that gives various feelings to people.
