G-Dragon, a prominent member of the K-pop group BIGBANG, has announced his voluntary appearance before the police for questioning regarding suspicions of drug use, as confirmed by his lawyer on Tuesday.
The lawyer, Kim Su-hyeon, emphasized that this step is taken to ensure a prompt and equitable investigation. G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, is facing allegations of illegal drug use, a violation of the Narcotics Control Act. The artist has consistently denied these allegations.
The police, following these developments, have scheduled G-Dragon's questioning for Monday and have indicated their intention to conduct an immediate drug test to determine whether any substances were recently consumed.
The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency initiated an investigation into G-Dragon and imposed a travel ban on him last week.
This decision follows G-Dragon's statement one day earlier, expressing his willingness to cooperate with the investigation. His lawyer, in the same statement, urged the media to act responsibly and prevent the spread of false information that could harm the K-pop star. Strong warnings were issued against any false or defamatory reports.
In a separate but related matter, the police summoned actor Lee Sun-kyun for his second questioning on Saturday. Lee had returned home after a reagent test the previous week, which yielded a negative result. He is suspected of using marijuana and other illicit substances at the residence of a hostess working at a high-end establishment in Seoul's Gangnam district on multiple occasions since the beginning of this year.
The police have sought the services of the National Forensic Service to conduct an in-depth analysis of urine and hair samples, a process that could extend beyond two weeks.
Depending on the actor's admission of guilt and the number of times he is found to have used drugs, the police will assess the possibility of seeking an arrest warrant for Lee Sun-kyun.
