Director Explores Individual Narratives in "D.P. 2" While Maintaining Realism

The South Korean series "D.P." garnered widespread praise in 2021 for its authentic portrayal of Army life and its willingness to explore the controversial aspects of military service. As anticipation builds for the upcoming "D.P. 2," director Han Jun-hee revealed that the focus will shift towards delving deeper into the narratives of the individual characters.

"D.P.," an abbreviation for "Deserter Pursuit," revolves around Private Jun-ho (played by Jung Hae-in) and Sergeant Ho-yeol (played by Koo Kyo-hwan), as they uncover the motivations behind soldiers' attempts to escape the army.

Following its release, the first season of "D.P." found immense success, ranking among Netflix's top 10 TV shows in multiple countries for over three months, according to streaming analytics firm FlixPatrol.

During a press conference at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas on Tuesday, Director Han Jun-hee emphasized the series' intention to provoke questions rather than provide definitive answers. "D.P. presents a bitter story of Jun-ho, not about a specific group or organization," he explained.

While the title "D.P. Season 2" may suggest a fresh start, Han clarified that the upcoming series is an extension of the previous season, continuing the narrative from where it left off. He expressed his desire to explore how the shocking incident featured in the last episode of season 1 influenced the characters.

Actor Jung Hae-in, who portrayed Jun-ho, expressed his excitement for the upcoming season, noting the character's growth and struggles. "D.P. 2" delves into Jun-ho's deep contemplation about his circumstances as he continues his military service and attains the rank of private first class.

Director Han envisioned "D.P. 2" as a six-part feature film, each episode representing a different genre, characters, and setting. "One episode will be like a noir series, while the next would be more like a music film," he shared. Han's intention is to entertain viewers with diverse storytelling approaches.

Highlighting the relevance of the series, Han expressed his hope that "D.P." provides an opportunity to reflect on tragic and unfortunate incidents that persist in society.

"D.P. 2" is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix on July 28, offering fans a continuation of the compelling and thought-provoking narrative that captivated audiences worldwide.
