On the 20th anniversary of the death of poet Kim Chun-soo, the Korean painter CHOI presents a solo exhibition with the poet's new collection of poetry, "As if it were a flower and as if it were tears(꽃인듯 눈물인듯)". Their relationship began in 1999 and has continued for 20 years, including the work of poetry and print collections in 2001 and poetry collections that were published as posthumous works in 2005.
The artist was born in 1963 in Cheongdo, North Gyeongsang Province, and graduated from Viljupe Art School in France. He was active in Paris from 1993 to 1998. Since 1922, he has held more than 22 solo exhibitions in Korea and France, including the Gallery Banditrazos, the Kumho Museum of Art, and the Albertville Municipal Museum of Art, and participated in more than 350 group exhibitions held around the world.
CHOI also attracted the attention of people around the world by winning the top prize at the 1996 International Art Exhibition in Bruges, Belgium, and was selected as one of the "100 Young Artists We Should Pay Attention to" by 44 Korean critics in 2003.
He presents new works presented through the plane with text introduced and three-dimensional paintings and installation work. He shows his art world that harmonizes with poetry through the contrast between black and white, primary colors, images, and text.
The upcoming collection of poems is a reissued collection of poems of the same name, which the two artists published 20 years ago after twists and turns. The artistic experiment, which was opened to the world in 2005, promises a new birth in 2024.
The collection of poetry contains the world of new poetry and paintings that the poet and CHOI wanted to create. As the conflict and combination of the two worlds of poetry and painting was a challenging experiment in the contemporary art world, poetry and painting will shine beautifully on each other in this exhibition.
The artist will unveil about 30 new works through this exhibition. They are works that the artist has worked on by himself by focusing on inner sounds, and are freely drawn by listening to the latent sounds inside, breaking away from the existing "forest" series that he has been working on for a long time.
The exhibition will be held at Gallery Banditrazos in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul until the 31st.
