In a historic achievement for the K-pop industry, BTS member V's solo album, "Layover," has emerged as the bestselling solo album in South Korea, according to Hanteo Chart, a leading music sales tracker. The remarkable milestone was announced on Friday, with "Layover" amassing a staggering 2,101,974 copies in sales as of Thursday, setting a new standard for K-pop solo albums and securing its place as the 10th highest-selling Korean album of all time.
This milestone signifies the first instance in which any solo artist's album has surpassed the 2 million sales mark within its first week. V's incredible achievement continues to cement his status as a chart-topping artist in the Korean music industry.
"Layover" made a historic impact from its very first day of release, with over 1.67 million copies sold on its debut day. This record-breaking feat established "Layover" as the highest first-day sales for any K-pop soloist in history.
Since venturing into their solo projects last summer, BTS members have consistently showcased their individual selling power. Hanteo Chart data reveals that only five K-pop soloists have earned the coveted "million-seller" title in their debut week, with BTS members claiming the top three spots. V leads the list, followed by Jimin's "Face" and Suga's "D-Day."
V's solo debut with "Layover" occurred just a week ago, an album he co-produced with Min Hee-jin, the executive producer of girl group NewJeans. The six-track album is spearheaded by the mesmerizing focus track, "Slow Dancing," which quickly soared to the top of iTunes' Top Songs charts in an astounding 75 countries upon its release.
The EP also includes previously released singles, "Rainy Days" and "Love Me Again," along with side-tracks "Blue" and "For Us," and a piano version of the main song. "Love Me Again" gained international recognition, securing the No. 96 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart after its release on August 11th.
As excitement continues to build around V's remarkable solo career, fans can look forward to the unveiling of the music video for "For Us" at midnight on Saturday. With "Layover," V has not only shattered records but also captivated hearts worldwide with his artistic brilliance and musical prowess.
