SHINee’s Onew has postponed promotional activities for his upcoming mini-album, CONNECTION, as a gesture of respect during the national mourning period following the Muan Airport Jeju Air flight accident. His agency, Griffin Entertainment, announced the revised schedule on December 31, emphasizing their solidarity with the victims and their families.
Originally slated for January 2, the release of Onew’s music video teaser has been rescheduled to January 5 at midnight. Additionally, promotional photos for the album and a second teaser will be unveiled on January 5 and 6, respectively. The album itself remains on track for its scheduled release on January 6 at 6 PM KST across major streaming platforms.
In a statement, Onew conveyed his condolences, saying, “We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims of the accident and their bereaved families.” This decision aligns with his commitment to show respect during a time of collective mourning.
CONNECTION marks Onew’s return to the music scene, with anticipation running high among fans for his new work. Despite the delay in promotional activities, the artist’s gesture has been widely praised as a thoughtful acknowledgment of the tragic event.
The postponement reflects a growing trend among artists and public figures in South Korea to prioritize empathy and respect for national tragedies over commercial schedules. By doing so, Onew reinforces his reputation not only as a talented performer but also as a compassionate and socially responsible public figure.
