Park Na Rae has extended her support to the victims of the tragic Jeju Air crash at Muan International Airport through a private donation. A representative for Park confirmed on December 31 that the comedian had contacted the local government directly to offer financial assistance.
In keeping with her wishes, the amount and recipient of the donation have not been disclosed. “Park Na Rae wanted this to remain a quiet act of support,” the representative said, emphasizing her connection to the region.
Muan holds special significance for Park Na Rae, as it is her hometown and where her grandparents currently reside. The comedian has frequently featured Muan in her appearances on MBC’s I Live Alone, often bringing fellow cast members to visit the area. Her success has also been a point of pride for Muan’s residents; when she won the Grand Prize at the 2019 MBC Entertainment Awards, the town celebrated with congratulatory banners.
The Jeju Air crash occurred on December 29, when Flight 7C2216, arriving from Bangkok, collided with airport infrastructure during an emergency landing attempt. Of the 181 passengers on board, 179 lost their lives. Two surviving crew members sustained injuries.
Authorities have since recovered all the victims' remains, and discussions are underway to arrange funeral services. The government has declared a national mourning period from December 29 to January 4, urging solidarity and support for the grieving families.
Park Na Rae’s gesture is part of a broader wave of condolences and contributions from public figures, organizations, and the entertainment industry. While award shows and promotional events have been postponed or canceled, individual acts of kindness like Park’s resonate deeply during this period of collective grief.
