Jennie of BLACKPINK has expressed her condolences for the victims of the tragic Jeju Air crash at Muan International Airport. On December 31, her agency, OA Entertainment, shared a solemn post on its official social media account, featuring an image of a white chrysanthemum, a traditional symbol of mourning. The caption read, “We deeply mourn the loss of lives in the recent aviation tragedy. May the victims rest in peace.”
The accident occurred on December 29, when a Jeju Air flight attempting to land at Muan Airport crashed into the runway’s outer structure, resulting in a devastating explosion. Of the 181 passengers on board, 179 lost their lives, making it one of the deadliest aviation disasters in South Korea’s history.
The government has declared a national mourning period from December 29 to January 4. In response, the entertainment industry has come together to honor the victims. Award ceremonies, concerts, and promotional activities have been postponed or canceled, with numerous artists and organizations publicly extending their sympathies.
Jennie’s acknowledgment adds to a collective effort by public figures to support the grieving nation. Known for her global influence as a member of BLACKPINK, Jennie’s message has resonated with fans worldwide, amplifying awareness of the tragedy.
Looking ahead, Jennie is preparing for the release of her solo album in early 2025. In April, she is also set to perform at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, reaffirming her status as a leading figure in the global music scene.
Her participation in mourning the victims reflects the broader responsibility carried by artists and public figures during times of national grief, underscoring the importance of unity and empathy.
