In a highly anticipated debut, YG Entertainment introduced its latest girl group, Babymonster, on Monday, marking the agency's first addition to its girl group roster in seven years since the emergence of Blackpink.
Babymonster's inaugural digital single, "Batter Up," swiftly climbed to the top of iTunes’ Song Chart in 14 countries within a few hours of its release, as reported by the agency. The accompanying music video for the single achieved over 10 million views on YouTube in less than 12 hours, showcasing the group's rapid global impact.
Comprising six members, the multinational ensemble includes two Korean members, Haram and Rora; two Thai members, Chiquita and Pharita; and two Japanese members, Ruk and Asa. The group's journey from months-long evaluations, shared with the public via YouTube, heightened anticipation for their official debut.
Asa, one of Babymonster's members, played a significant role in the creation of the debut single. Collaborating with renowned producers like DEE.P, Bigtone, Treasure’s Choi Hyun-suk, and AKMU’s Lee Chan-hyuk, Asa contributed to composing and writing the lyrics for "Batter Up."
Describing the single as a hip-hop genre piece, YG Entertainment expressed the hope that "Batter Up" would serve as a declaration of Babymonster's arrival and contribute to establishing their unique identity in the dynamic K-pop scene.
