As Blackpink prepares to captivate fans at their highly anticipated finale concert in Seoul this weekend, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) is taking decisive action to combat the proliferation of counterfeit Blackpink merchandise.
The Intellectual Property Police, an initiative established by KIPO in 2021 to combat intellectual property infringements, will be on patrol around subway stations and entrances in close proximity to the Gocheok Sky Dome. Their mission: to crackdown on the unauthorized sale of Blackpink merchandise in the vicinity of the stadium.
Concert venues often witness a bustling marketplace of stalls and stands peddling artist-themed merchandise, including photo cards, light sticks, cushions, and hair bands, many of which are produced without the approval of the artists' agencies.
"We have been diligently monitoring the sale of counterfeit Blackpink-related merchandise online for the past month. Our investigations have revealed a significant presence of counterfeit Blackpink-related products circulating online. Consequently, we are planning a comprehensive crackdown at the concert venue," announced KIPO.
In addition to on-site enforcement, KIPO has taken measures to delist counterfeit merchandise from online platforms and eliminate counterfeit sellers. Collaborating closely with entertainment agencies, KIPO is committed to eradicating counterfeit merchandise both in the online and offline realms.
Blackpink, the global sensation, is poised to conclude their world tour, aptly titled "Born Pink," which has united over 1.75 million fans from around the world. The grand finale is set to take place at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro District, western Seoul, over two unforgettable days this Saturday and Sunday.
As fans eagerly anticipate Blackpink's grand performance, KIPO's efforts to preserve the integrity of the group's brand and combat counterfeit merchandise underscore the significance of intellectual property protection in the ever-evolving world of entertainment.
