In a groundbreaking move for the K-pop genre, Ateez is slated to headline the prestigious Mawazine international music festival in Rabat, Morocco, marking the first-ever performance by a K-pop act at the event. Organized by KQ Entertainment, the eight-member boy group is scheduled to take the main stage, OLM Souissi, on June 23, as Mawazine returns after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Founded in 2001, Mawazine has previously featured renowned artists like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and The Weeknd. Ateez's inclusion underscores their rising global prominence, following a captivating performance at the Coachella Valley Music Festival, where they showcased a fusion of K-pop with traditional Korean cultural elements. This marked the group as the first K-pop boy band to grace Coachella's stage.
Additionally, Ateez is set to perform at Japan's Summer Sonic 2024, one of the largest outdoor music festivals in the country, held at Expo Commemorative Park in Osaka and Zozo Marine Stadium in Tokyo on August 17 and 18, respectively. With an annual attendance of approximately 200,000 music enthusiasts, Summer Sonic boasts a star-studded lineup of international musicians.
Ateez's global trajectory continues with the upcoming release of their 10th EP, "Golden Hour: Part.1," scheduled for May 31. The group's ascent in the music industry was underscored by their second LP, "The World Ep Fin: Will," which secured the top spot on Billboard's main album chart, the Billboard 200, following its release on December 1 last year.
