FC Seoul midfielder Jesse Lingard will be sidelined for an additional month in K League action due to knee surgery. The news was confirmed by FC Seoul manager Kim Gi-dong, who stated that Lingard underwent the procedure one day prior to the team's match against the Pohang Steelers. Lingard's absence is expected to last approximately four weeks as he recovers.
Lingard had been experiencing knee pain since March, which caused him to miss the team's last four league matches. Despite joining FC Seoul in February, the former Manchester United midfielder has yet to showcase his best form. In three substitute appearances in the league, Lingard failed to score or assist, delivering a lackluster performance.
His display during a match against Jeju United on March 16 led to criticism from manager Kim, who emphasized the importance of on-field performance over fame. Lingard responded by acknowledging the challenges of football dynamics, indicating a desire to overcome them.
While Lingard and Kim appear to have resolved any conflicts, Kim has reiterated the expectation for Lingard to assume a leadership role within the team. Lingard's potential to contribute significantly to FC Seoul's attacking prowess, similar to his past performances characterized by pace and accurate crosses, remains a focal point for the team's strategy.
FC Seoul's last league title victory occurred in 2016, marking the club's most recent achievement in competitive tournaments. Lingard's return to form could potentially bolster the team's chances of securing further success in the league.
