BlackPink(블랙핑크), a girl group that leads the K-Pop market with BTS, was nominated for major awards in the U.S. And Britain, proving their popularity and influence once again.
According to YG Entertainment, the agency of BlackPink, on the 13th, the group was nominated for the "International Group of the Year" category of the "2023 BRIT Awards" in the UK.
The BRIT Awards is Britain's most prestigious pop music awards, which began in 1977. It gives various awards to the most popular singers of the past year in the British pop music scene, such as the "Golden Disc Awards" in Korea.
Organized by the British Recording Industry Association, the award ceremony will be decided by a panel vote consisting of radio, TV DJ and host, broadcaster executives, record producer representatives, and journalists.
In the "International Group of the Year" category, BlackPink competes fiercely with Drake & 21 Savage, who collaborated with Her Loss, the No. 1 album on the U.S. Billboard's main album chart, and First Aid Kit, a Swedish folk duo.
BlackPink is getting more attention because it is the first K-pop girl group to be nominated for the BRIT Awards. They also draw attention to whether they will become the fifth female winner of the International Group of the Year category after Bangles, TLC, Destiny's Child and Heim.
Previous "International Group of the Year" winners include Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day. BTS was nominated for the category in 2021 and 2022, but failed to win the award. This year's BRIT Awards will be held on Feb 12.
Along with BTS, Black Pink was nominated for a total of four categories, including "Favorite Use of a Sample", "Best Music Video" and "Best Fan Army", which determine the winners by social media voting in the U.S. "iHeartRadio Music Awards 2023".
BlackPink was nominated for a major award for its pre-released song Pink Venom as its second full-length album "Born Pink," released last year, gained global popularity.
BlackPink will also compete with prominent candidates such as the American band "AJR", the American hip-hop group "Black Eyed Peas", the duo "Silk Sonic" and the American band "Imagine Dragons" for the Best Duo of the Year award.
BlackPink was also nominated for "Best Music Video" in 2021 for "How You Like That" and was nominated for "Best Fan ARMY" with BLINK.
BlackPink and BTS are representative groups of K-Pop, and K-Pop fans around the world are very interested in the popularity competition at the "iHeartRadio Music Awards 2023."
BlackPink successfully finished its North American and European concerts late last year and is now conducting an Asian tour.
