The Pop Art Visionary Pushing Boundaries in the Contemporary Art World

Page Gallery participated in Art Busan 2023 Booth A-9. British contemporary artist Philip Colbert's iconic work, including Flower Study XXIV, will be exhibited. Known for her color-emphasized and visually striking pop art pieces, Colbert is a well-known figure in the contemporary art world, much of which is critical of contemporary consumer culture.
In an interview with Sayart, Colbert spoke about his unique background in philosophy at the University of St Andrews in the UK and how it has influenced his work. His broad artistic interest in art history, popular culture, and digital culture is reflected in many of his works that live a life that transcends time and space.
Colbert's artistic alter ego, the persona Lobster, has become an iconic figure in his work, embodying narratives on behalf of the artist and gaining worldwide attention. He has held solo exhibitions in major galleries and museums around the world, including Tate Modern in London and Powerlong Art Museum in Shanghai.
In addition to working with traditional art forms, Colbert explored the world of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), creating a series of 7,777 unique portraits of the Persona Lobster in the pose of a thinking man. Titled “Lobstar,” the series explores the intersection of art and digital culture, extending Colbert’s reach beyond the metaverse.
Through collaborations with global brands such as Samsung, Apple, Nike and Montblanc, Colbert's creativity and influence as a contemporary pop artist continues to be recognized and celebrated. His participation in Art Busan 2023 is undoubtedly the highlight of the festival, showing his unique vision and artistic style.
