Wavve, a popular streaming platform, is set to unveil its latest thriller series, "Deal," delving into a gripping kidnapping scheme intertwined with the intricate dynamics of friendship. The story unfolds around three friends entangled in a staged kidnapping plan, shifting the spotlight away from monetary gains to unravel the intricate relationships between the characters.
The tale centers on Jae-hyo (Kim Dong-hee), a financially burdened medical school student, who, after a night of heavy drinking, orchestrates a faux kidnapping of his friend Min Woo (Yoo Soo-bin) to extract ransom money from Min Woo's affluent mother. The unexpected involvement of their friend Jung-sung (Yoo Seung-ho) propels the storyline into unforeseen and suspenseful territory.
Director Lee Jung-gon, known for his debut feature "Not Out" (2021), shared his vision for the series during a press conference at the 28th Busan International Film Festival. He emphasized the unique approach taken by "Deal," focusing not only on the monetary aspect of the kidnapping but delving deeper into the shifting dynamics of friendship and the desires that underpin them.
Lee stated, "The story intertwines kidnapping, hostage, and money. Although it focuses on money, I tried to concentrate more on the trio's changing relationship under different circumstances." He underscored the exploration of the characters' evolving dynamics, providing a multifaceted perspective beyond the conventional thriller plot.
Yoo Seung-ho, one of the lead actors in the series, expressed his attraction to the storyline and his character, which grapples with the delicate balance between friendship and the allure of financial gain. "The story of friends kidnapping their friend was interesting," said Yoo. "I also had a strong desire to play a role that I haven't played before."
"Deal" is set to premiere on Wavve, offering viewers an immersive experience into the intricate interplay of relationships, desires, and unexpected twists in this suspenseful thriller. The series will also be available on the American streaming platform Rakuten Viki, providing a broader audience with access to this captivating narrative.
