Park Shin-hye and Park Hyung-sik lead the cast in JTBC's latest medical drama, "Doctor Slump," offering a unique portrayal of doctors grappling with burnout and emotional turmoil. Director Oh Hyun-jong emphasized the human side of the medical profession, drawing inspiration from real doctors who shared insights into the challenges faced by dedicated professionals.
Director Oh Hyun-jong conveyed the drama's message that, despite societal recognition, lucrative pay, and prestigious roles, doctors can experience distress due to interpersonal interactions. The focus is on the human heart and how individuals treat one another within the demanding field of medicine.
Park Hyung-sik, known for his participation in serious and dark narratives, found the script of "Doctor Slump" refreshing. Despite the thematic focus on burnout and depression, he noted the drama's tone as supportive and comforting, akin to a close friend assuring that things will be alright.
The collaboration marks the reunion of the two actors, who previously worked together in "The Heirs" (2013). Their familiarity with each other facilitated chemistry-building for their respective roles in "Doctor Slump." Park Shin-hye expressed joy at working again with Park Hyung-sik, while he acknowledged feeling supported and less anxious with her by his side.
"Doctor Slump" premieres its first episode at 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 27.
