The Korean Cultural Center in the United Arab Emirates is inviting participants to join a special one-day workshop focused on creating cheongsachorong, traditional Korean paper lanterns. This hands-on hanji craft workshop will give participants the opportunity to learn about and create their own version of these beautiful lanterns that have been used in Korean celebrations and ceremonies throughout history.
The workshop is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Korean Cultural Center's Multipurpose Hall, though the venue may be changed to the library if needed. The event is completely free of charge and is open to individuals aged 14 and above, with the exception of Korean nationals.
Cheongsachorong represents an important element of Korean traditional culture, having served as decorative and functional lighting during various cultural celebrations and ceremonial events in ancient Korea. Through this workshop, participants will gain insight into the traditional Korean art of hanji crafting while creating their own unique lantern to take home.
Those interested in participating can register through the provided Google Forms link at https://forms.gle/N1eRdzDzaARWdUiT9 during the registration period from July 31 to August 5, 2025. Confirmation emails will be sent to all applicants on August 6, 2025, notifying them of their enrollment status.
The Korean Cultural Center has established several important guidelines for participants. Unexcused absences from the workshop may impact future eligibility for class enrollments at the center. Additionally, participants should be aware that photos and videos will be taken during the workshop for documentation purposes, and these images may be used by the Korean Cultural Center for broadcasting and promotional activities.
For additional information or questions about the workshop, interested individuals can contact the center directly at lecture.kccuae@gmail.com. This workshop represents part of the Korean Cultural Center's ongoing efforts to share Korean traditional arts and cultural practices with the international community in the UAE.
