In January, Kim Nam-joon, better known as RM of the popular K-pop group BTS, completed five weeks of basic military training at the Korea Army Training Center in Nonsan. Alongside fellow band member V, RM enlisted for mandatory military service late last year.

Following the completion of basic training, RM was stationed in Gangwon Province and subsequently selected to join the military band of his unit, as confirmed by sources close to the group.

RM's enlistment and subsequent training were in adherence to South Korean law, which requires all able-bodied men to serve for a minimum of 18 months due to ongoing tensions with North Korea.

A recent viral photo on social media platform X depicted RM in his military band uniform, holding a saxophone. The photo, taken at a military event, garnered significant attention with over 20,000 likes and 4,000 reposts.

Both RM and V are slated to conclude their military service on June 10, 2025. BTS' oldest member, Jin, is expected to complete his service earlier in June, paving the way for the group to reunite fully in 2025.

Meanwhile, the remaining five BTS members are also fulfilling their mandatory service obligations, either in the military or in alternative roles such as social service agents.
