Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria Introduces Traditional Korean Snack Making to Local Participants

The Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN) successfully conducted its inaugural K-Snack cooking class in July 2025, training 16 Nigerian participants in the art of making Hotteok, a beloved traditional Korean sweet pancake. This cultural exchange program represents a significant step in promoting Korean culinary traditions and fostering deeper cultural connections between Korea and Nigeria.
The hands-on cooking class introduced participants to Korean snack culture through practical instruction in preparing Hotteok using a combination of locally sourced ingredients and authentic Korean pre-mix flour. The traditional pastry features a delightful filling of cinnamon, brown sugar, and nuts, creating a perfect blend of sweet and aromatic flavors that participants found both accessible and enjoyable to recreate.
To enhance the culinary experience, the freshly made Hotteok was served alongside vanilla ice cream, providing participants with an authentic taste of how this popular Korean street food is traditionally enjoyed. The participants reported that the cooking process was surprisingly easy to follow and expressed enthusiasm about the interactive nature of the class.
KCCN officials emphasized that this Hansik cooking program serves a broader purpose beyond just culinary education, aiming to strengthen cultural ties and mutual understanding between the two nations. The initiative demonstrates Korea's commitment to sharing its rich food heritage with international communities and building meaningful cross-cultural relationships through shared culinary experiences.
Building on the success of this inaugural K-Snack class, KCCN announced plans to expand its cultural programming with additional cooking classes and cultural education initiatives. These future programs will continue to introduce Nigerian audiences to various aspects of Korean culture, from traditional recipes to contemporary culinary innovations, further cementing the growing cultural partnership between Korea and Nigeria.
