Seoul's iconic Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), distinguished by its unique and innovative architecture featuring 45,133 silver exterior panels, is embarking on a groundbreaking venture. Each of these panels, which contributed to the DDP's distinctive design, is set to be issued as a non-fungible token (NFT), heralding a fusion of art, technology, and public engagement.
Recently, the Seoul Design Foundation, under the leadership of CEO Kyung-don Lee, forged a significant partnership through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with 'Ground X.' This collaboration signifies a momentous step towards the development of the 'DDP45133' project, a new and ambitious undertaking spanning over three years. The project aims to set an example for the shared use of NFTs in conjunction with public spaces, fostering a deeper connection between art and the citizens of Seoul.
The 45,133 exterior panels adorning the DDP are known for their diverse shapes, encompassing curved surfaces and intricate perforations. In a visionary move, these individual panels will be transformed into digital representations, each encapsulating the essence of a citizen's life within the iconic DDP. This innovative approach aims to create a digital space without the constraints of physical limitations, where each image becomes a part of a larger whole, mirroring how the unique panels unite to form the architectural masterpiece.
The 'DDP45133' project is set to kick off in earnest in December, commencing with the release of 33 special NFTs that encapsulate the architectural philosophy of the renowned Zaha Hadid, the visionary architect behind the DDP. Simultaneously, an exhibition hall dedicated to 'DDP45133' will be unveiled, offering the public an opportunity to engage with the project's vision and purpose.
Yang Joo-il, CEO of 'Ground X,' has expressed a commitment to actively support the 'DDP45133' project, particularly through their innovative Clip platform. This partnership holds the promise of a transformative venture that merges art, technology, and public spaces, embracing the concept of NFTs as a medium for shared creativity and expression.
