MINISTRY OF CULTURE, SPORTS AND TOURISM
The South Korean Culture Ministry is set to participate in Downtown Design Dubai, a prominent design platform in the Middle East, spanning three days starting Wednesday. The event features design products and craftwork from around 250 design brands across the region.
The ministry's presentation will include 26 pieces of craftwork crafted by six esteemed artists: Kim Joon-yong, Yoo Ji-an, Sohn Dae-un, William Lee, Cho Sung-ho, and Huh Sang-wook.
Notably, glassblowing artist Kim was a finalist for the Loewe Craft Prize in 2017, while Yoo's Moon Jar was presented as a state gift to U.S. President Joe Biden by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol.
The Culture Ministry's participation in the fair has been in the works since President Yoon's state visit to the United Arab Emirates in January, a significant diplomatic milestone as it marked the first state visit by a South Korean leader to the UAE since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1980.
The ministry intends to further support Korean artists by engaging in various fairs and exhibitions in the region and offering them valuable trade counseling services.
