In response to growing concerns, Pledis Entertainment, the management agency for K-pop group Seventeen, acknowledged on Sunday the removal of a teaser video for the group's 11th EP. The teaser, which was for the EP titled "Seventeenth Heaven," included a version themed around Beijing and was uploaded on Saturday. The video featured chamomile flowers against the backdrop of the Great Wall of China.
However, some fans expressed discomfort over the use of Chinese cultural heritage as a backdrop, deeming it insensitive and culturally inappropriate. China has strict policies against content that utilizes its cultural landmarks in such a manner.
Addressing the issue, Pledis Entertainment issued an apology, acknowledging their oversight and lack of understanding regarding cultural diversity. The agency emphasized its commitment to creating content that can be appreciated by audiences from various cultures and regions, pledging to exercise greater sensitivity in their future productions.
On a different note, the group's 13 members recently returned from an overseas shoot for a music video in anticipation of their upcoming album.
