Amidst a brewing controversy regarding the striking resemblance of the album cover for K-pop boy band Kingdom's latest album to the Quran, their agency GF Entertainment announced a recall of the initial production copies. The move follows concerns raised by fans and observers about the cover's likeness to Islam's holiest scripture.
The agency stated, “There were concerns expressed that the Kingdom’s seventh mini-album cover, which was due to go on presale on Sept. 21, bore a striking similarity to the Quran." In response to the controversy, they affirmed their commitment to respecting diverse cultures and offered their sincere apologies, acknowledging a lapse in awareness that contributed to the issue.
In a bid to rectify the situation, GF Entertainment declared the recall and discard of all 70,000 initial production copies of the album, pledging to redesign the cover. They expressed regret for any offense caused, particularly to the Muslim community, and emphasized their dedication to preventing similar incidents in the future through increased vigilance.
The controversy emerged when Kingdom unveiled the cover for their seventh mini-album, titled “History of Kingdom: Part VII. JAHAN.” The agency announced that preorders for the revised mini-album will resume on Sept. 26, while the original release date of Oct. 18 remains unaffected.
