South Korean singer Sung Si-kyung, known for his refined taste in spirits, has introduced a new rice wine under his liquor brand Kyung. Developed in collaboration with startup brewery J1, the makgeolli rice wine, named "Kyungtakju," marks Sung's entry into the liquor market. The singer actively participated in every stage of crafting the traditional fermented drink, renowned for its distinctive taste.
Kyungtakju is composed of ingredients such as rice and fermentation starter, offering a unique twist with a higher alcohol content of 12 percent, compared to the typical 6 to 9 percent found in commercially produced makgeolli. Sung, with a substantial online presence through his YouTube channel boasting nearly 1.8 million subscribers as of February 2024, had previously shared his plan to launch a traditional liquor.
This move reflects the evolving landscape of the entertainment industry, where celebrities explore diverse business ventures beyond their primary fields of expertise.
