In the upcoming film "Road to Boston," actor Yim Si-wan steps into the role of Suh Yun-bok, a national team marathoner during the days following Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule. The story deeply resonated with Yim, propelling him to portray Suh Yun-bok with a sense of representing Korea during a critical time in history. Yim believes that everyone carries a latent patriotism that can be activated when their country's essence is at stake.
Playing a real-life historical figure like Suh Yun-bok came with its challenges and pressures. Born in 1923, Suh triumphed in the 1947 Boston Marathon, just two years after Korea gained independence. To embody a professional marathoner convincingly, Yim underwent a rigorous eight-month fitness regime and diet, an endeavor he describes as challenging due to his love for food.
Despite the physical challenges, Yim found a sense of freedom and comfort on the set of "Road to Boston" under the guidance of director Kang Je-gyu. The experience ignited a newfound passion for running in Yim's life, leading him to be actively engaged in a running crew for the past three years since filming concluded.
For Yim Si-wan, "Road to Boston" not only signifies a significant film role but also a transformative journey that sparked a love for running, a simple yet invigorating pursuit that continues to shape his life.
