Global streaming service Netflix opened the set for the second season of "Squid Game" to the press on Thursday, showcasing ongoing production efforts scheduled to extend into 2024.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, known for the 2021 Netflix survival drama series "Squid Game," expressed gratitude for the viewer interest and support since filming commenced in July. Emphasizing the commitment to delivering a compelling outcome, Hwang hinted at the inclusion of new games, characters, and a deeper plot with a significant message.

Chae, honored at the 26th Art Directors Guild Awards for the sixth episode of "Squid Game," acknowledged the responsibility associated with meeting viewer expectations.

This press tour marked the first time the "Squid Game" producers revealed the set, contrasting with the first season filmed during the pandemic. The showcased sets hold significance for the second season's plot development.

"Squid Game," a 2021 global phenomenon, amassed 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first 28 days on Netflix. Riding on this success, Netflix introduced "Squid Game: The Challenge," a reality show replicating the original series' games, released in November.

The second season of "Squid Game" boasts a star-studded cast, including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Lee Jin-wook, Choi Seung-hyun, and Gong Yoo. Filming is set to continue until 2024, with no specific release date confirmed.
