Oh My Girl, the beloved girl group comprising members Hyojung, Mimi, YooA, Seunghee, Arin, and Yubin, is set to continue its streak of summer hits as they unleash their latest EP, "Golden Hourglass." With a much-anticipated showcase at the Yes24 Live Hall in Gwangjin District, eastern Seoul, the group personally introduced their new music on Monday, marking their first release in a year and four months.
Known as the illustrious "Summer Queen" in the K-pop industry, Oh My Girl has consistently enchanted audiences with a series of summer chart-toppers, from the 2020 megahit "Nonstop" to "Dolphin" (2020) and "Dun Dun Dance" (2021). With their new lead track "Summer Comes," an energetic dance number evoking the imagery of the ocean, the group aspires to reign supreme in this highly competitive season.
Explaining the EP's title, member Hyojung shared, "The new EP's title is a combination of the golden hour time and an hourglass. Once time goes by, like how sand falls in an hourglass, it doesn't come back. We are here to seize that golden hour."
Remarkably, despite their association with summer songs, Oh My Girl's previous hits have never directly mentioned the season. This time, however, they proudly present a direct ode to the summertime, adding another layer of depth to their musical repertoire.
The members candidly discussed the challenges of performing "Summer Comes," with its fast-paced lyrics and intricate dance routine. Seunghee expressed her commitment to conveying the song's energy through her powerful vocals, while YooA highlighted the choreography's depiction of waves and seashells, exuding a refreshing vibe.
During their year-long hiatus as a group, the individual members pursued various endeavors, ranging from solo music careers and TV entertainment shows to acting projects. Arin, reflecting on her acting experience, described it as a meaningful journey as she turned 25.
Grateful for their diverse activities, Mimi shared, "Whether I'm on stage or on entertainment shows, all those versions are me. I would be grateful if the audience loved all those versions of me, but what I can do is do my best in every situation given to me."
To the delight of their fans, Oh My Girl delivered the stage premiere of "Summer Comes" alongside an entertaining and captivating music video. This visual masterpiece centers around a compelling plot, featuring seasoned extras from the Netflix zombie series "All of Us Are Dead" (2022). Despite the action sequences and the novelty of seeing each other act, the members flawlessly embraced their unique color, creating a delightful twist for the public to revel in.
As Oh My Girl sets the stage ablaze once more, their new EP promises to be a refreshing wave of summer anthems, reminding fans of their unparalleled charm and musical prowess. The group's unwavering dedication to crafting memorable tunes ensures their reign as the undisputed "Summer Queen" of the K-pop realm continues to shine brightly.
