Led by veteran actor Song Kang-ho, Disney+ original series "Uncle Samsik" delves into the fictional stories of individuals living in 1960s South Korea. Song Kang-ho, known for his roles in "Parasite" (2019) and "Cobweb" (2023), stars alongside Byun Yo-han in this 16-part period drama.
The series centers around Kim San, played by Byun Yo-han, a young government official striving to implement his National Reconstruction Proposal. Kim is approached by Park Doo-chill, portrayed by Song Kang-ho, a political broker known as "Uncle Samsik," who offers assistance in achieving Kim's plan.
Director Shin Yeon-shik, known for his work on "Cobweb" and "Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet" (2016), expresses his personal curiosity about the formation of South Korea and its society. The series, set against the backdrop of the 1950s and 1960s, explores pivotal moments in Korean history following the Korean War.
"Uncle Samsik" offers a departure from popular streaming services' original drama series, presenting a new and refreshing perspective. The series will release five episodes on Disney+ every Wednesday, starting from May 15.
