Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol has identified the convergence of artificial intelligence and Korean cultural content as a pivotal strategic sector that could power South Korea's next phase of economic growth, promising full government backing for this emerging industry. The minister made these commitments during a high-level meeting with industry leaders and stakeholders in Seoul on Thursday.
The meeting was organized as part of comprehensive follow-up measures following the government's recent establishment of 15 cross-sector task forces. These task forces bring together members from both public and private sectors to drive innovation and economic development across multiple industries.
"The fusion of AI and K-content represents not only a new growth driver for our economy but also a core sector where local companies can take the global lead," Minister Koo emphasized during his address to industry representatives. He stressed the government's unwavering commitment to supporting domestic companies in realizing their full potential and emerging as global leaders in the content marketplace.
The South Korean government has designated the next five years as a critical window of opportunity to achieve significant breakthroughs for sustainable economic growth. Officials are working to produce tangible, measurable results by 2030 as part of their comprehensive economic development strategy.
As part of this ambitious roadmap, the government has set specific targets for the Korean content industry. The administration aims to help the K-content sector reach 230 trillion won (approximately $165 billion) in annual sales while achieving $25 billion in export revenue. These goals reflect the government's confidence in the sector's potential for explosive growth.
Minister Koo reaffirmed that the government will deploy all available resources and policy tools to support domestic companies in unlocking their technological and creative potential. This comprehensive support system is designed to ensure that Korean companies can compete effectively on the global stage and capture significant market share in the rapidly expanding AI-powered content industry.
